About China
It has one of the world's oldest people
and continuous civilizations, dating back more than five thousand years.China's
economy during the past 30 years has changed from a centrally planned system
that was largely closed to international trade to a more market-oriented
economy that has a rapidly growing private sector and is a major player in the
global economy. China
in 2008 stood as the second-largest economy in the world after the US,
however, in per capita terms, the country is still way below US.
Poverty and Illiteracy
-From 2000 to 2005, the number of illiterate
Chinese adults jumped by 33 percent, from 87 million to 116 million,
-China’s illiterate population had
accounted for 11.3 percent of world’s total.
While the children in large cities like Beijing enjoy a happy
life, many children in the rural area lead a desperate life. According to
yangchengwanbao, there are still 40 million poor children in China. That
means one out of five children is living in poor.
Nearly 2 million Chinese children at their school age are missing out
school every year. One reason is that the family is very poor, they can’t
afford to the fee of education, or they need the children to support the
family.
